Need Help With Your Writing?

May 13, 2014

There are services offered through DePaul’s University Center for Writing-based Learning (UCWbL) that may be of interest to you.

Online Writing Groups consist of writers like you from across the Chicago area and beyond to come together in a virtual setting to collaborate on their projects with a tutor and other students. Google Hangouts is utilized to create a virtual meeting room for writers and a tutor to communicate and exchange information. Whatever writing concerns writers bring, the group provides feedback, researches helpful resources, talks through possible approaches, and creates actionable steps for writing and revision. It’s a great place to get advice from peers and learn from others’ experiences in order to inform your own writing and learning processes at a distance with an easy to use format.

In addition to the Saturday Writing Group, the UCWbL also offers Online Writing Groups by Request. The UCWbL will provide a Tutor to meet with the group in a virtual meeting room and will help foster the discussion between writers, providing the same experience as the standing online writing group, but at a time convenient to the participants. Group members discuss their own writing and the work of others, honing critical reading, thinking, and analytical skills.

If you live in the Chicago area, there are also groups that meet at the Loop and suburban campuses.

The SNL Online Writing Group runs every Saturday during spring quarter from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM CST. If you are interested in joining, or would like more information, please contact Edward Evins at eevans6@depaul.edu
