Countdown to World Cup Soccer

It’s 2010 and a year for World Cup soccer, which, like the Olympics, comes every four years.  The tournament starts in June in South Africa, in 75 days 15 hours (June 11th).  The USA will be there.  We are currently ranked 16th in the world and are coached by Bob Bradley who was at one time the coach of our Chicago Fire.  We play our opening game against England and I will be watching.  I will probably also place a few bets with British friends in Second Life!

When it’s not a world cup year I get my soccer fix as a devoted fan of the Chicago Fire (west side, section 107, row 14).  The season started on March 27th with a game in NY at the Red Bull’s brand new soccer stadium.  We lost 1 to nil (as the Brits say) but played attractive attacking soccer and showed well under our new coach, Carlos de los Cobos.  We also have some new players, including Collins John who was a strike partner of Brian Mc Bride at Fulham in the top English league.

And, like all Chicago sports fans, hope springs eternal!  We got to the quarterfinals last year and I hope we will play in the MLS Cup game in the fall!

See you online or at Toyota Park!
